I spent almost 20 years struggling with poor self-esteem, a completely warped body image, emotional eating, dieting and bingeing. I read every self-help book available to me, met with half a dozen therapists and tried countless online programs but my problem stemmed from the fact I could not convert theory into practice. I was too scared, had the wrong information and had not yet let go of the diet mentality. It was only until I found myself in complete surrender that I could go forward. When I had let go of the old way of being and started welcoming new ways of seeing myself and my thoughts, feelings, and habits something shifted. I started taking care of myself in a way I never before and my compulsion to “fix myself” slowly waned.
Now, looking back, there are so many things that I wish someone would have told me. That it takes time and true commitment and constant recommitment, that there are going to be ups and downs and that you have to be willing to face your fears, insecurities and try on a whole new way of life. That even if you have the best of help, the right information and a cheerleading team to support you you will have to do the work yourself and find a way of doing it that works for YOU!
But also that it is COMPLETELY DOABLE and TRULY LIFE CHANGING…
…and that you will be able to enjoy food in a way you never have before, that you’ll free up so much time and that you will finally be able to be present in the world without the veil of obsession and anxiety.
The ice cream in the freezer will no longer constantly be calling your name and you’ll have the time to finally immerse yourself in all the things that make your heart sing. You’ll be able to think and see more clearly and make decisions based on your own preferences and well-being, not the nagging voice of shame, fear and guilt.
